THE STUDIO

Located in the premier endcap of Mill Valley’s historic and charming El Paseo passageway, The Studio is my working creative space. It is my home away from home where I shoot, paint and write. Please come say hi! I’ll make you an espresso, we can chat and laugh and create something magical together!

A bit of history for any buffs out there… El Paseo has long been rooted in supporting artists and creative expression and was originally envisioned as an artist colony. In 1938, community activist and visionary Edna Foster and her husband Henry purchased the historic Holtum Building and adjacent properties and started work on unifying the space into a singular architectural experience. They imagined “El Paseo” (Spanish for “scenic path”) as a place where artists and craftspeople could live, create, and share their work. Inspired by the winding paths of a Spanish town, they transformed a group of unrelated buildings into a beautiful old world passageway of interconnected courtyards, gardens, shops and galleries.

The Studio’s architecture is enchanting and unusual: it combines multiple original spaces into a single large unit which has high ceilings and plenty of space to create. It is flanked by banks of vintage windows which let in huge swaths of delicious afternoon sun. It has three entries, two directly onto the El Paseo walkway, and one entry onto the main street. The gently sloped bricked pathway which runs alongside The Studio is thick with climbing vines and flowers. It remains one of the Fosters’ most beloved design choices and provides me a perfect quiet haven away from the pace of busy life.
